S10 crank no start.
We had a 2001 Chevrolet S10 that would turn over but not start. We check fuel pressure and found it was 45 psi. The range was 41-47 so it was ok. We then pulled a spark plug wire off and found we had no spark when cranking. The ignition control module is what sends a signal to the computer to fire the coils. We tested this by looking for a voltage signal. We had 11.87 volts. So this was ok. Next we turned to the crankshaft position sensor. We found that it was giving a signal about every 10 to 12 crank revolutions. Hmmmm. It should show every revolution on the scan tool. We put a new crankshaft sensor in and problem solved. This is a short hand write up of a hour diagnose.
